Fiberweb owns and operates two fully automated meltblown machines that are almost solely dedicated to the manufacturing of oil and chemical absorbent products. The widths are 76 and 80”, and each machine operates in tandem with a web collector, calender (thermal bonder), machine and across-direction slitters/perforators, roll winder, and pad sheeter. Average capacity for each of these machines is 650 lbs per hour. Web weights range from 13 to 700 gsm (grams per square meter). Unwind stands introduce thin, pre-manufactured membranes of either fine fiber meltblown polypropylene or spunbond polypropylene that are thermally bonded to thicker coarse fiber mb pp post-extrusion, creating two or three-layer composites.
All post-industrial meltblown polypropylene waste is granulated and converted into accessory sorbents, including socks, pillows, and booms. Spunbond casings for all of these products are made on Fiberweb spunbond polypropylene machines in their adjacent plant.
